Fundraising for Summer

May 7, 2013

Eden's GoFundMe pictureI’ve just set up a GoFundMe page for my daughter, Eden, who wants to attend a summer teen art and language institute in the beautiful town of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where her grandparents (my folks) now live full time.

I’m thinking I should set up a GoFundMe page for a new motorcycle. . . hmmmm. . . dreaming!

(Anyone who is interested in helping us get Eden to art camp this summer can find the link to donate on my Facebook page. The GoFundMe button is not active on the image at right.)

GoFundMe is such a great idea. I can imagine the summer camp can be a little pricey.

I am quite impressed with GoFundMe. I was a bit dismayed that it’s not a free service, but I feel the exposure we’ve already gotten is worth the few dollars that we are paying.

And yes, summer camps like this are expensive, especially adding in the flight cost. However, I am dedicated to making sure my daughter has these experiences, not only for her college prep, but also because I feel so strongly that this next generation needs a tremendous amount of global awareness in order to make the world a better place.

You might consider asking for funds via In keeping with the spirit of that website, your daughter could offer to send folks who donate $1 a personal thank you email. For $5 an artfully decorated thank you card and for $20 perhaps a series of six Christmas cards…etc. Just a thought…

Skye: Thank you but the fundraising effort is long over. I’m thinking about Kickstarter for a serious personal project that is long overdue, so I appreciate the thought. Best to you…
